JJ Abrams Star Trek

This post is not so much about Star Trek Into Darkness, as it is about the differences between the original Star Trek universe and what JJ Abrams has created.

Yes, the first movie gave lip service to the notion of an alternate universe, a plot point which actually propelled the story along as well. Yet let me assure you the changes probably run deeper and further back before Nero incurred into the early 23rd Century.

We actually know this to be so as Captain Rabou and George Kirk‘s USS Kelvin has a completely different look to it even before Nero comes through the black hole.

Trust me, you’ll sleep better if you think of JJ Abrams‘s Star Trek Universe as a “What if…” or along the lines of the Mirror Universe – Which it has a great deal in common with. That is to say, the pieces (characters) have been rearranged on the chessboard this go around and they have been from the get go.

Or… we could simply admit that this is an entertainment franchise which has one of the worst track records of all time in science-fiction for maintaining continuity on any level, forcing its writers and fans to constantly reverse-engineer things. :P pbbt ;)
