Who Is Kasumi 9?

Image

Those reading “Among Bright Stars…” will notice I throw out a mystery when I introduce the double gun wielding envoy Kasumi 9, who is a Synthicon, which is sort of an artificial shell for a human mind. Synthicons, though complex machines are considerably less advanced than are Morningstars.

The mystery I put out is, who was Kasumi 9 before the desolation of America? I’ll tell you here. Kasumi 9‘s identity is that of a real-world political figure. Those who know me will probably leap to the wrong conclusion, even though I do make an offhand reference to the person who they might first assume (knowing me) I intend Kasumi to be.

I’ll probably resolve her identity by book 3, though I’d be pleased to read speculation.

THAT is Kasumi 9? And she’s less sophisticated than a Morningstar?

I think Llarian Shadowmark (the first female-formed Null in my Metacosmos) would like to have some serious sitdowns with both classes of being, to learn all she could about them. And then destroy those she interviewed, just to prove she could. :P pbbt

Try to, anyway. :D After all, if I ever get the chance I want to make her a real nemesis to my protagonist, who at that point in his life (you’d think) wouldn’t fear Cthilu in a Lamborghini. :D

Oh the whole Synthicon is very akin to Major Kusanagi Motoko from “Ghost in the Shell”.

Yet alas, not all robots are created equal. :)

Well I needed a quick picture. That’s actually Masumi Max. The dragon tattoos was why I chose it.

Machine wise, yes they are much different. Kasumi is much more electrical/wires and such, whereas Morningstars have organ-like parts that are not really made of flesh.

And a Morningstars brain is a far better storage medium than a Synthicons. Which has a impact on a Synthicon’s emotional range.

Its why Fafnir is… um, well I won’t get into that now.
